Hide faces and license plates in photos and videos, on your own computer

Drop in photos, videos or a whole folder, choose faces, plates or both, and CloakFrame saves copies covered with mosaic, blur, a solid color or an image of your own. Your originals are never changed.

Nothing is uploaded. All processing happens on this computer.

Installing

Windows

  1. Run the Setup.exe you downloaded and follow the steps.

macOS

  1. Open the DMG file.

  2. Drag CloakFrame into the Applications folder.

Linux

  1. Make it executable in a terminal: chmod +x CloakFrame-*-Linux-x86_64.AppImage

  2. Run the AppImage.

Good to know

  • Automatic detection is not perfect. Check the results before you share them. Turn on Review before saving to go through each one, remove false detections and cover anything missed.
  • Voices and other sounds in videos are not hidden. Turn on Remove audio from videos if you need to.
  • 10-bit and HDR videos are not supported. Video support is in beta, so play each result to the end before sharing it.

What it does

  • Removes hidden data like location and camera model from saved photos
  • Photos: JPG, PNG, BMP, TIFF, WebP. Videos: MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM
  • Uses your graphics card when it can
  • Available in English, Korean and Japanese
  • Tells you about new versions and installs them only when you agree

When it goes online

Downloading a detection model the first time you use it, checking for a new version at startup (you can turn this off), and downloading an update you approved. Nothing else.
